Pullover and full-zip hoodies

In the Carhartt range, a hoodie is called a hooded sweatshirt. The pullover has a drawstring hood, a kangaroo pocket and ribbed cuffs and hem, with the Carhartt patch on the pocket or a small C logo on the chest or sleeve. The full-zip version closes with a metal zip, has split front pockets and often a lined hood. Some hoodies have raglan sleeves, and others have a large print on the back or down the sleeve.

Crewneck and quarter-zip sweatshirts

A Carhartt sweatshirt is made from cotton sweatshirt fabric, like the hoodie, but without the hood. The crewneck has a round, ribbed neckline, often with a V-shaped insert at the front, and ribbed cuffs and hem. Some have raglan sleeves, and the logo is embroidered on the chest or on the sleeve. The quarter-zip sweatshirt has a stand collar with a short metal zip.

Knitted jumpers and cardigans

The knitted jumpers come in cotton and in wool, from a fine knit to a chunky knit, with a crewneck or a V-neck, ribbed trims and the Carhartt patch at the hem or a small logo on the chest. Some have a jacquard pattern or stripes knitted into the front. The full-zip jumper has a high collar and two pockets, and the cardigan has a V-neck and a button front.

Size and measurements

Carhartt sizing differs between models and between decades, so the letter on the label is a rough guide. Each item is measured at four points: across the chest from armpit to armpit, the length of the body, across the shoulders and the length of the sleeve. How should a Carhartt hoodie or jumper be washed?

The care label inside gives the instructions for that item. Cotton fleece is best washed cold and inside out, which also protects prints, and air dried, because tumble drying is the biggest single cause of shrinkage in cotton.
