Pre-owned Armani jackets, blazers and shirts from Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, Armani Jeans and Armani Exchange.
The house of Armani
Giorgio Armani founded his company in Milan in 1975 with his partner Sergio Galeotti. The house became known for the unstructured jacket, a jacket with much of the padding and stiff interlining taken out, so that the cloth follows the body instead of holding a fixed shape. That idea runs through Armani tailoring, from the main line to the casual lines.
The Armani lines on the label
The name Armani covers several lines, and the label inside each item shows which one it belongs to. Giorgio Armani is the main line, with the most refined tailoring of the house. Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans were both introduced in 1981 as younger ready-to-wear lines, and Armani Exchange, also known as A|X, opened its first store in New York in 1991 as the most accessible line. In 2017 the house reduced its lines to three, Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and Armani Exchange, and Armani Jeans stopped as a separate line, so a label that reads Armani Jeans dates the item to before that change. Each line is explained in more detail in Armani lines explained.
The line is part of every item title in the store, for example Emporio Armani or Armani Jeans, so it is clear before an item is opened.
Armani jackets and blazers
An Armani blazer is usually single-breasted, with a soft shoulder and a lighter construction than a classic tailored jacket. Wool, wool blends and suiting fabrics are typical for Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani, while Armani Jeans and Armani Exchange are known for casual jackets in nylon, cotton and denim, such as bombers, field jackets and zip-up jackets.
Armani shirts
Armani shirts range from formal button-up shirts to the casual short-sleeve shirts of Armani Jeans, in cotton and cotton blends.
Size and measurements
Cuts differ between the lines and between production years, so the size on the label is a rough guide. On a blazer the shoulder measurement matters most, because the shoulders are the hardest part of a jacket to alter. The method is explained in the guide to measuring pit to pit.
More designer labels are on the page for high-end designer clothing, for men and women, including Prada and Hugo Boss.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani?
Giorgio Armani is the main line of the house, with the most refined tailoring and the highest prices. Emporio Armani is the younger ready-to-wear line, introduced in 1981.
Is Armani Exchange real Armani?
Armani Exchange is a line of the Armani group, introduced in 1991 as the most accessible line of the house. It is genuine Armani, positioned below Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani.
Is Armani Jeans still made?
Armani Jeans stopped as a separate line in 2017, when the house reduced its lines to Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and Armani Exchange. Items with an Armani Jeans label were made before that change.
How can a genuine Armani item be recognised?
On a genuine item the construction matches the line on the label: even stitching, a neat lining and buttons and zips that match the quality of the fabric.
