Pre-owned Arc'teryx jackets, from waterproof shells to softshells and insulated jackets.
Shells, softshells and insulated jackets
Arc'teryx is a Canadian outdoor brand, and its name and bird logo come from the Archaeopteryx, the fossil of an early bird. Its jackets are grouped in families. Beta jackets are waterproof shells with a Gore-Tex membrane, Gamma jackets are softshells in a stretch fabric that blocks wind and lets heat out, and Atom jackets have synthetic insulation that keeps its warmth when damp.
The letters after the name
The letters after a model name describe how the jacket is built within its family. AR stands for all round, SV for severe weather, LT for lightweight and SL for super light. A Beta AR is therefore the all-round version of the Beta shell.
Size and measurements
Cuts differ between models and production years, so the letter on the label is a rough guide. The method is explained in the guide to measuring pit to pit.
Shell care
The membrane of a shell lasts for years, while the DWR finish on the surface wears off and can be renewed with a wash-in or spray-on treatment. Gore-Tex, Down and DWR explains what to look for on a technical jacket.
