Down jackets and parkas
The Nuptse has a boxy shape and wide horizontal baffles, and the 1996 Retro Nuptse is a reissue based on the version from 1996. The Gotham is a down parka with a longer body and a high neck. The number on the label, such as 700, is the fill power of the down: a higher number gives more warmth for the same weight. The down jackets have their own page, The North Face puffer jackets.
Shells, softshells and rain jackets
Shells and rain jackets keep out wind and rain, and HyVent is the name The North Face uses for its own waterproof, breathable fabrics. Summit Series is its most technical line. A softshell is a stretch fabric that blocks wind and light rain and breathes more easily than a waterproof shell. The jackets have their own page, The North Face jackets.
