Pre-owned Patagonia jackets, from the Nano Puff and Torrentshell rain jackets to Adze softshells and Synchilla fleece jackets.
Insulated jackets
The Nano Puff is a light, packable jacket with synthetic insulation that keeps most of its warmth when damp. It can be worn on its own or under a shell. The Down Sweater is filled with down, which gives more warmth for its weight but loses most of it when wet.
Rain jackets and shells
The Torrentshell is a waterproof rain jacket made with H2No, the waterproof standard of Patagonia, and other rain jackets have names such as Storm and Rainshadow. A rain jacket has no insulation and is worn over a fleece or an insulated jacket in cold weather.
Softshells
The Adze and the Guide are softshells, made of a stretch fabric that blocks wind and light rain and breathes more easily than a waterproof shell.
Fleece jackets
Patagonia gives its fleeces model names. Synchilla is a soft, thick polyester fleece, and the Snap-T is a Synchilla pullover with a snap placket at the neck and a chest pocket. Micro D is a thinner, lighter fleece. The Better Sweater has a sweater-knit face and a fleecy inside, and the R1 and R2 belong to the Regulator range of technical fleece made for active use.
Size and measurements
Outdoor jackets are cut with room for a layer underneath, and older Patagonia jackets are often boxier than current ones. The letter on the label is therefore a rough guide. The method is explained in the guide to measuring pit to pit.
The full range is on the Patagonia page, with separate pages for men and women. The Patagonia buying guide explains the models, and Gore-Tex, Down and DWR explains membranes, insulation and water repellency. More jackets are in outdoor clothing.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Nano Puff and the Down Sweater?
The Nano Puff has synthetic insulation that keeps most of its warmth when damp. The Down Sweater is filled with down, which is warmer for its weight in dry weather.
Is the Torrentshell waterproof?
The Torrentshell is made with H2No, the waterproof standard of Patagonia. The DWR finish on the surface wears off over the years and can be renewed with a wash-in or spray-on treatment.
How should the size of a Patagonia jacket be judged?
The jackets are cut to go over other layers. The four measurements in the description are a better guide than the letter on the label.
