Pre-owned jumpers and knitwear, from crewneck and V-neck jumpers to cable knits, cardigans, turtlenecks and quarter-zips.
Crewneck and V-neck jumpers
The crewneck has a round neckline that sits close to the neck. The V-neck has a neckline that drops to a point and leaves room for a shirt collar underneath. Both are knitted from yarn, usually cotton, wool or a blend, with ribbed cuffs and hem.
Cable knits
A cable knit has twisted rows of stitches that form raised, rope-like patterns on the front, the back and the sleeves. The pattern makes the knit thicker and warmer than a plain knit. Ralph Lauren cable knit jumpers have a page of their own.
Cardigans, turtlenecks and quarter-zips
A cardigan opens at the front with buttons or a zip. A turtleneck has a high, folded collar that covers the neck. A quarter-zip has a short zip at the neck and a stand collar. Knitwear from several brands has its own page: Ralph Lauren jumpers, Lacoste jumpers, Burberry jumpers and Stone Island sweaters.
Wool, cotton and cashmere
Wool keeps warm even when it is slightly damp, while cotton knit is lighter and easier to wash. Merino and lambswool are softer types of wool, and cashmere is softer and lighter still. Knitwear keeps its shape best when it is washed cold and dried flat. The care label inside each item gives the instructions for that item, and the guide to washing and caring for clothing explains the differences per material. Washing wool without shrinking it is explained in how to wash and care for wool knitwear.
Size and measurements
Knitwear can stretch or shrink over the years, so the letter on the label is a rough guide. Each item is measured at four points: across the chest from armpit to armpit, the length of the body, across the shoulders and the length of the sleeve. Comparing those numbers with a jumper that already fits gives the most reliable result, as explained in the guide to measuring pit to pit.
