Trench coats and car coats

The classic trench coat is double-breasted, with a belt at the waist, shoulder straps and a storm flap, usually in cotton gabardine. Worn with the belt tied, it is closer at the waist, while worn open it falls straight. The car coat is shorter, ends around mid-thigh and has no belt. Wool coats and peacoats

A wool coat, also called an overcoat, is cut long enough to cover a jacket or a thick jumper and usually ends at the knee or below. The peacoat is shorter, double-breasted and made from heavy wool with wide lapels. Wool coats from one brand are collected under Burberry overcoats.

Parkas and raincoats

A parka is a long, hooded coat for cold weather, filled with down or a synthetic insulation, and the hood is often finished with a fur or faux-fur trim.
