Burberry trench coats for women and men, from the belted double-breasted coat to the single-breasted version with concealed buttons. Every coat is authenticated through LegitApp, professionally cleaned and measured at four points.

The trench coats in this collection

The double-breasted Burberry trench coat has a storm flap at the chest, epaulettes, a belt and buckled straps at the cuffs, and several coats have a throat latch at the collar. The single-breasted version closes with one row of buttons, often concealed, and wears more like a raincoat or mac. Most coats are made of cotton, and one is made of wool. Beige is the most common colour, in shades from stone to khaki, alongside navy, black, red, brown and grey. Most coats are lined in the Burberry check, and some have the Nova check. Some of the coats are vintage, from the 1970s to the 2000s. Replaced or missing buttons and damage to the belt are stated in the description and shown in the photos.

Women and men, mid-length and long

The collection includes trench coats for women and for men, and some coats are marked unisex. Women's and men's sizes run on different scales, and a size label from decades ago rarely matches a modern one. Each coat is therefore measured flat at four points: across the chest from armpit to armpit, the length of the body, across the shoulders and the length of the sleeve. Length varies most, from mid-length coats to long coats. A trench coat is cut to be worn over a jacket, so comparing the four measurements with a coat already in the wardrobe gives the most reliable result. The method is explained in the guide to measuring pit to pit.

Where the Burberry trench coat comes from

Thomas Burberry introduced gabardine in 1879, a tightly woven cloth that keeps out rain while letting air through. During the First World War Burberry developed the trench coat on that cloth for British officers, and the belt and the epaulettes date from that period. The Burberry check followed in the 1920s, first as the lining of the trench coat.

All Burberry jackets are collected in one page, and Burberry is also available for women and for men. The complete guide to Burberry covers the history and the check in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

How are the trench coats authenticated?
Every coat in this collection is authenticated through LegitApp before it reaches the store. The label also shows the age of a coat: it reads Burberrys on coats made before 1999 and Burberry after that.

What is the difference between a double-breasted and a single-breasted trench coat?
The double-breasted trench coat is the original military design, with an overlapping front, a storm flap, epaulettes and a belt. The single-breasted version closes with one row of buttons, often concealed, and wears more like a raincoat.

Is an older Burberry trench coat still waterproof?
Gabardine keeps out rain well, but cleaning over the years reduces that. An older trench coat can be treated again to make it water-repellent.

How are prices set?
Prices are set per item, up to 80% below the original retail price.
