Hoodies

A hoodie is a sweatshirt with an attached hood. The pullover version usually has a kangaroo pocket at the front, and the full-zip version opens all the way down. Most hoodies are made of cotton or a cotton blend, often brushed on the inside. Ralph Lauren hoodies and Carhartt hoodies have pages of their own.

Crewneck and quarter-zip sweatshirts

A crewneck sweatshirt has a round, ribbed neckline and no hood. A quarter-zip has a short zip at the neck and a higher collar that can be worn open or closed. On many sweatshirts the brand logo is embroidered or printed on the chest.

Sweatshirts or knitwear

Sweatshirts are cut from a knitted cotton fabric, usually with a looped or brushed inside. Jumpers that are knitted from yarn, such as cable knits, V-necks and cardigans, are in jumpers and knitwear.

Size and measurements

Hoodies and sweatshirts are often cut loose, and the cut differs per brand, so the letter on the label is a rough guide. Each item is measured at four points: across the chest from armpit to armpit, the length of the body, across the shoulders and the length of the sleeve.
