Trench coats

The trench coat is a long coat with a belt at the waist, usually double-breasted, with epaulettes on the shoulders and a storm flap across the chest. Burberry trench coats are made of cotton gabardine, a fabric woven tightly enough to keep out rain while letting air through. Overcoats, car coats and duffle coats

An overcoat is a tailored coat, mostly in wool, made to be worn over a jacket or knitwear. A car coat is shorter, ending around the thigh, and has no belt. Down parkas

A parka is a long winter coat with a hood. Canada Goose parkas are filled with down, and many older models have a fur-trimmed hood, because Canada Goose stopped using fur at the end of 2022. Coats or jackets

Size and measurements

Coats are cut to be worn over other layers, so the letter on the label is a rough guide. Each coat is measured at four points: across the chest from armpit to armpit, the length of the body, across the shoulders and the length of the sleeve.
