Waxed cotton and details

Barbour was founded in South Shields in 1894, according to the company history. Most jackets in this collection are waxed cotton with a corduroy collar. Many have a tartan lining, one has a paisley lining and two have a quilted lining. The Bedale dates from 1980 and the Beaufort from 1983, according to the same history, and both models appear in this collection. It also includes field jackets, a wool and cotton jacket with a check and two women's jackets in nylon and polyester.

Size and measurements

Most jackets in this collection are size XL or XXL. The size on the label is only a rough guide, because jackets labelled XL measure between 56 and 65 cm across the chest, a difference of 9 cm within one letter. Each jacket is measured flat at four points: chest, length, shoulders and sleeve. The method is explained in the guide to measuring pit to pit.
